The Los Angeles Clippers have been a laughing stock in the NBA for the past few years, but a recent article by Bleacher Reports suggests the team might finally be on the right track.
The article is based on conversations with three people who have been following the franchise for quite some time, and it’s not a great one.
There’s a lot to unpack here, but the main takeaway is that the Clippers are in a good spot, and that they’re probably going to have a shot at contending for a championship this upcoming season.
Let’s start with the big picture first.
The Clippers were supposed to be a rebuilding team.
In 2016, they were the last team in the league to make the playoffs, and they were supposed, as the team’s owner, to be one of the best teams in the world.
The only team with a shot was the Golden State Warriors, but that team was the defending champion, and the Clippers were still hoping to make that happen.
The Warriors were the only team that had a chance to actually make the postseason, and had an MVP in Steph Curry.
This year, they’re not the team that they were last year, but they’re still the team with the best chance of winning a championship.
The Los,ers are one of four teams in that group, and are one win away from a second consecutive trip to the NBA Finals.
The Warriors, as you probably know, won it all last season, but things got worse for the Clippers this year, as Golden State swept the Clippers in six games in the first round.
This wasn’t just a loss to the Clippers, but also a loss for the Warriors to one of their own.
The last thing that would have gotten Golden State in the playoffs was a loss.
But it wasn’t as if they were playing poorly this season.
They’re still a top-five team in offensive efficiency and defensive efficiency, and their best two players, Andre Iguodala and Blake Griffin, are still very good.
They had a nice year, winning the West with the Warriors, and I believe that’s going to happen again this year.
When you look at the rest of the conference, the Clippers have a solid chance of making the playoffs again.
The Rockets and Spurs are tied for the fourth and fifth best records in the conference.
The Wizards are still the worst team in terms of wins, but have the easiest schedule to win games against.
And the Clippers’ biggest weakness this year is defense.
Their defensive rating of 106.3 this year would rank them 12th in the entire league.
That’s an improvement from last season’s 107.8.
But it’s still a significant drop, and there’s a reason for that.
I don’t have a great handle on how good a defense the Clippers will be able to play, because they’ve had a lot of time to adjust to a different system than they had in 2016.
But based on their defense this year against the Warriors (105.8 in 2016), the Warriors won the NBA title.
It doesn’t help that they’ve been playing with Kevin Durant in the starting lineup since mid-February, and Kevin Love and Chris Paul, who had the NBA’s second-highest points per game average at 19.9 points per contest last season.
But Durant and Love, who have a combined 17.4 points per night, are both returning this season, and Paul will have the most minutes of anyone on the team.
The team’s best defensive player is now playing in his eighth NBA season, after spending most of his career as a point guard.
It should also be noted that this is the first year that Griffin is a starter, as he’s played all of his time in the frontcourt.
As long as he can stay healthy, this is going to be an interesting season for the team, and if the Clippers can keep up their improvement on defense, they should be in a pretty good spot.
They might not have the All-Star caliber of a title contender, but there’s no reason to believe that they can’t get there.
